Is pepto bismol good for stomach to calm down when you have food posioning?
Im scared to eat anything.. What should i eat/drink.. Is pepto good for my stomach when i have food posioning… I ate nothing today and have just been drinking diet coke..

Answer by ruthaya2
If I were you I would continue drinking just clear liquids. When you get to be that sick, taking any kind of medicine- including Pepto Bismol- will be a waste of time and money as it won’t be in your body for very long, trust me. I wouldn’t drink anything diet, though- the artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, and fiber additives present in many of those products will set your system off even worse.

You shouldn’t be drinking diet coke….ginger ale is much better to calm an upset stomach. Pepto is okay when taken as directed on the bottle, it will help calm your stomach…but don’t be panicked when you see blackish stools, Pepto will do that, and blackened bowel movements when taking pepto is to be expected.

You can eat items that are soothing to the stomach. Generally whatever you can keep down, but try not to eat too much roughage since that will make the diarrhea worse. Good old chicken dumpling soup and saltine crackers are excellent…they help replenish your fluids, settle your stomach, and have nutrition. Be sure to ingest fluids, dehydration is one of the main causes of hospital visits from food poisoning…all that liquid going in the toilet needs to be replaced. If you are not feeling a little better by tomorrow evening, (you don’t need to be totally well, just better) you would need to see a doctor. There are other things besides food poisoning that can cause the same problem and they can come on quite suddenly, so people often think of food poisoning instead…pancreas attacks, gall bladder attacks, even appendix attacks all have the same symptoms you are having.

If you experience any of the following signs or symptoms, seek medical attention.
Frequent episodes of vomiting that interfere with your ability to keep liquids down
Vomiting blood
Severe diarrhea for more than three days
Blood in your bowel movements
Extreme pain or severe abdominal cramping
An oral temperature higher than 101.5 F (38.6 C)
Signs or symptoms of dehydration — excessive thirst, dry mouth, little or no urination, severe weakness, dizziness or lightheadedness
Difficulty speaking
Trouble swallowing
Double vision
Muscle weakness that progresses downward

Whatever you do, please don’t just drink diet coke! That can’t be good for you! Keep hydrated with water instead.

This may sound strange to you, but what really helped for me when I had food poisoning was stevia herbal tea. It was seriously amazing! It seemed to work immediately, and although it may sound strange, I recall feeling it work, like I felt it healing my body! The stevia leaf actually contains about 100 different nutrients…

I’m not sure about pepto bismol, but it may help. Personally, I prefer natural remedies.

I hope you feel better soon! Food poisoning is not fun!
